IOWA STREET LOFTS · 1236–48 IOWA STREET · DOWNTOWN DUBUQUE, IA

History,
restored.
Lofts,
reimagined.

A 19th-century building in the heart of downtown Dubuque, right by the Farmers Market, is being brought back to life as 13 one-of-a-kind loft residences, with two ground-floor storefronts alongside. Original limestone, brick, and timber remain, while everything around them is being thoughtfully renewed.

HISTORY

Built in 1885. Reimagined for today.

The datestone above the front cornice still reads 1885; this building has anchored this block of downtown Dubuque for over a century. The renovation is built around keeping that history visible, not covering it up.

The original limestone foundation and brick masonry are being cleaned, rather than replaced, with the gentlest methods possible. Historic storefront columns, stone window headers and sills, and the building's original bay rhythm are being preserved and repaired throughout. Behind the buildings historic character are entirely new systems and modern improvements, including wiring, plumbing, fire separation between floors, replacement windows set into the original openings. All thoughtfully incorporated to meets todays standards while preserving the buildings architectural charter.

Three connected buildings, one shared history and future, thirteen residences that are each a little different from the next. IOWA STREET LOFTS · DOWNTOWN DUBUQUE
